Die cut boxes

A die cut box is cut from one sheet of board with a custom steel rule die, so it can have any shape the folds allow: locking tabs, handles, windows, built in inserts, display fronts. If a standard box almost works, a die cut box is how you make it exactly right.

Structure first, then print

Every die cut box starts as a dieline: a flat drawing of every cut, crease and glue flap. We design it around your product, make a sample so you can test it, then cut the die. Once the structure is right, your artwork is laid out on the same dieline so graphics line up perfectly with every fold.

Cardboard can replace foam

A well designed die cut insert holds products as well as foam or plastic trays, usually for less money, and it goes in the recycling bin with the box. We design inserts that lock into the box without glue so packing stays fast.

About the die

A cutting die is a one time cost for each new shape. It is included in your quote and kept on file for reorders, so you pay for it once. For short runs or prototypes we can cut samples on a digital cutting table with no die at all.

Who orders these

Die Cut Boxes: common questions

What is a die cut box?

A box cut to a custom shape with a steel rule die (or a digital cutter for samples). It allows features like lock tabs, handles, windows and built in inserts that a standard box cannot have.

How much does a cutting die cost?

It depends on the size and complexity of the shape. It is a one time cost included in your quote, and we keep the die on file so reorders do not pay for it again.

Can I get a sample before production?

Yes. We cut samples on a digital table so you can test fit and function before committing to the die and the full run.

Can you design the structure for us?

Yes. Send us your product (or its dimensions and weight) and what the box needs to do, and we will design a structure and send a sample.
