Right size first
The greenest box is the smallest one that protects the product. Less board, less void fill, more parcels per truck. Right sizing usually saves money too.
Keep it recyclable
Plain corrugated and paperboard are accepted in curbside recycling across most of Canada. Some extras make that harder: plastic windows, plastic laminations and foam inserts. Water based coatings, paper windows or no windows, and cardboard inserts keep the whole box in the blue bin.
Recycled and certified fibre
Most corrugated board contains a high share of recycled fibre. If you want to make claims about recycled content or certified forestry on your packaging, ask for the documentation that backs it up before you print the claim.
Replace plastic where it is easy
Cardboard partitions and die cut inserts can replace foam and plastic trays for most products. Paper tape and paper void fill finish the job.
Be careful with green claims
Words like eco friendly and sustainable need to be backed up in Canada. Specific, honest claims (for example, recyclable where facilities exist) are safer and more believable than vague ones.
How we help
- We right size boxes so you use less board and less void fill.
- We suggest cardboard inserts in place of foam and plastic trays.
- We flag finishes that make a box harder to recycle.
- We give you the documentation you need before you print any environmental claim.
